Gillingham School is committed to supporting students whose families are experiencing financial hardship.

Pupil premium, scholarships and bursaries are all forms of financial support aimed at helping students access education.

  • Pupil Premium is a specific grant for schools in England to support disadvantaged pupils.
  • Scholarships and Bursaries are offered to students directly, often based on merit or need.

The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) is a UK-based charity dedicated to improving educational outcomes, particularly for disadvantaged pupils. It conducts research and provides evidence-based resources to help schools close the attainment gap.

Pupil Premium funding is a government initiative that allocates additional financial support to schools for each student eligible for free school meals (FSM), as well as other disadvantaged groups. This funding is intended to help schools implement targeted interventions and support strategies that boost academic achievement.

Free school meals themselves are a key indicator of economic disadvantage and play a vital role in ensuring children have access to nutritious food, which supports both wellbeing and learning.

Student Scholarships & Bursaries

In lower school they provide vital financial support to help families manage the costs associated with education. These awards are typically offered based on academic merit, specific talents, or financial need, and may cover tuition fees, school supplies, extracurricular activities, or uniform expenses. By easing financial pressures, scholarships and bursaries help ensure that all pupils, regardless of background, can access enriching educational opportunities and thrive in a supportive learning environment.

At Sixth Form, we provide a variety of support options to help students thrive, including scholarships and bursaries tailored to individual needs and circumstances. These financial assistance programmes are designed to ensure that every student has access to enriching educational opportunities, regardless of background.
