Understanding School Performance Measures

To help parents make sense of school performance data, here’s a quick guide to three key terms:

Attainment 8 Shows how well pupils performed in their GCSEs across eight important subjects.

Progress 8 Shows how much progress pupils made from primary school to their GCSEs, compared to pupils nationally with similar starting points.

Entering the EBacc The percentage of pupils taking GCSEs in the full set of subjects that make up the English Baccalaureate (English, maths, science, a language, and history or geography).

These measures together give a balanced picture of both pupil achievement and school impact.
