Gillingham School Uniform 2025

At Gillingham School, we place great importance on school uniform as a means of fostering a strong sense of community, identity, and pride. Our uniform policy reflects the values and culture of our school and supports a positive learning environment.

  • The uniform policy applies to students in Years 7–11, with a separate dress code in place for Sixth Form students.
  • Ties and badges can be purchased from the school library

In cases of financial hardship, please contact the relevant Head of Year

From September 2026, the UK government regulations mandated that secondary schools limit compulsory branded uniform items to a maximum of three, plus a branded tie.

September 2026: Years 8-11 PE Uniform

We have updated our PE Uniform. However, we do not expect families to replace the current PE Uniform until it has either been outgrown or needs replacing. There will be a transitional period as we move to the unisex style.

All pupils must have:

  • Navy PE polo shirt heat transfer print school logo

Students will change into this kit for PE lessons and clubs. If they have a lunchtime sports club, they can remain in their kit for lesson 5 if they choose.

During PE lessons, students may remove the plain navy stadium pants (open hem) and wear either navy plain shorts or a skort.

It is essential that all students wear the appropriate kit for the activity they are participating in

Gillingham School PE Uniform from September 2026

September 2026: Year 7 only amendments

For Year 7 students starting in September 2026, the above school uniform code applies for all non-PE days. However, on days students have PE timetabled, we are trialling a new system. This means students will be permitted to wear the new unisex PE Uniform to school and throughout the day if they choose.

The PE Uniform for Year 7 is as follows:

  • Plain navy stadium pants (open hem)
  • Navy PE polo shirt with embroidered or heat-transfer printed school logo
  • Navy ¼ zip sweatshirt with embroidered school logo
  • Trainers predominately dark, no brand logos

Any PE Uniform that differs from the above will not be permitted. Students must wear their PE Uniform smartly throughout all lessons.

Should your child be uncomfortable staying in the PE Uniform that they have exercised in for the rest of the day, or in periods of wet weather,  they will be required either to bring in school uniform to change in to, or have secondary clean PE Uniform which meets the above standard.
