Since Government funding for the School Sports Co-ordinators programme was withdrawn 5 years ago few schools locally and Nationally have a similar programme in place and the students at Gillingham School, our feeder Primary Schools and local Sports Clubs are most fortunate that the Senior Leadership Team and Governors see this as such an important aspect of the school and community life and support it accordingly.
The programme consists of 3 inter-linked strands: Sports Leadership, Primary School Festivals and School/club links.
Sports Leadership
Most of our Primary Schools run the Bronze Sports Ambassadors programme in their schools therefore our new Year 7’s include students with experience of leading and motivating others. The Tutor Group Games Captains role gives them the chance to develop these skills further as they prepare teams for a Multisports event in their first half- term which involves every child participating in either Football, Netball, Endzone and Sitting Volleyball competitions. Primary School Festivals
These run throughout the year either at Gillingham School or local Community venues giving Primary School pupils a chance to see their future school and the opportunities available outside of school. Read More...

School/ Club links
We are most fortunate to have over 100 local clubs willing to support our youngsters in their sporting development. Many of these clubs use our facilities, which makes our Primary and Secondary students feel really at home and some run school based clubs including Archery and Basketball. The local Bowls club teach our Year 8 students the basic skills and etiquette of the game during PE lessons and organise and sponsor the hard fought Boys v Girls match! There is a club links directory on the school website and displayed on the noticeboard at the Gym and in classrooms. Read More.....
