These run throughout the year either at Gillingham School or local Community venues giving Primary School pupils a chance to see their future school and the opportunities available outside of school. The year starts with Year 5/6 Mixed Tag Rugby at NDRFC who also sponsor the event, where Year 10 -13 students receive 2 hours training from local club coach and former student Nick Matravers before coaching and refereeing the A and B team events where around 140 youngsters play. The High 5 Netball competition follows where the umpires are from Years 9-13 Sports Leaders who have taken the Young Netball Organisers course delivered by AENA Coach and Development Officer Karen Peaty. The winners of these events qualify to represent the Gillingham Family at the North Dorset Finals aiming to qualify for the Dorset School Games Finals. The Spring term seems the Year 5/6 Hockey Festival sponsored by Gillingham HC, Year 3/4 A and B Team football events on the Astro and in the MPH sponsored by Gillingham Town FC and finally the Year 5/6 Football competition held at Mere School sponsored by Mere Town FC. The character and nature of all these events is that the young players see the young leaders in action as officials, and are inspired to do the same when they come to “top” school.
