Extra-Curricular Music

Our Music Department offers a whole range of extra-curricular activities for students in addition to the Music Curriculum. Students can choose to learn to play an instrument and take lessons from a peripatetic music teacher.  Information about these and application forms are available below.  Students can join the Orchestra, the Man Choir or the Jazz Band and perform at events in school and in other venues including: the Albert Hall and tours to other countries.

Carol Concert 2018

A huge congratulations to all those students, and staff, that were involved in a wonderful Carol Concert at the end of last term.

Around 200 performers took part in the evening, performing a wide variety of challenging music. It was wonderful to see a full audience packed into the MPH, who were also in good voice for the singing of the carols. After some enjoyable readings and a poignant blessing (led by Rev. Muckle), the evening finished with a wonderful performance of 'This Is Me' as our Year 7 singers, Vocal Group, Staff Choir and Orchestra came together for the rousing and uplifting finale.

A huge well done to everyone for their hard work over the term, attending rehearsals and preparing for the event. Thank you for your kind donations on the evening which raised over £450 for Action for Children.

This is a recording of the opening number from the concert, 'Big Band Holiday,' performed by GYJO (our school jazz band).

Carol Concert 2017

This is a recording of Concert Band playing ‘As Tears Fall on Dawn’s New Light’.

We hope you enjoy listening to it – they did a great job at the concert.

Carol Concert CDs are now ready for collection so please see Mr Carey if you ordered one.

Victory

Year 12 A-Level Music student David Simkins has composed this piece, entitled 'Victory', and submitted it for the BBC Proms Inspire National Composition Competition. BBC Inspire is a brilliant scheme which invites young composers (aged 12-18) to get involved, no matter what genre of music, in composition and music-making. As well as the annual competition, they run workshop days and masterclasses. We wish David every success in the competition and congratulate him for his efforts in submitting his piece.
